Last year on July 4th, I quoted Frederick Douglass. I think I’ll do so again this year:

Well there’s some idealism for you. I don’t expect those qualities from man, much less a collection of men. Maybe the larger and more complex the faction that makes a nation (of minds, that is) the more dishonest, untruthful and less virtuous the faction becomes? Is the life of Sweden secure?
